Tribal Sovereignty Through Art Exhibits at University of Iowa

Thursday afternoon the CAIRNS director zoomed into an introductory Native American Art History class at the University of Iowa to deliver a presentation. The talk described the first five educational art exhibits that CAIRNS created and curated: Lakota Emergence, The Great Race, Tapun Sa Win, Takuwe, and Articles of a Treaty. The central idea was how these exhibits push back against the status quo processes of mainstream museums that develop and host “American Indian” exhibits that almost universally work against tribal sovereignty.
