This Week in Lakota History
This week’s CAIRNS Etanhan Wotanin column examines the journals of four boatmen with the Corps of Discovery as they traveled up the Missouri River through Titonwanian (Lakotan) territory 219 years ago this week. Their daily journal entries provide the only information about what happened. The column, “This Week in Lakota History,” can be read now by clicking here, or later this week in the Lakota Times newspaper. The image above is a portion of Clark’s journal entry for September 21, 1804, in which he sketched the big bend of the Missouri River.
