Thursday, December 19, 2024
The Oglala Sioux Tribe Clinical Lab invited the CAIRNS director to present on the time that the Corps of Discovery was in Titonwanian territory during its ascent of the Missouri River in 1804. The talk, “Hate Speech, Horses, and Hostages,” used a close reading of the journals of four of the boatmen to propose an alternative to the mainstream narrative of what happened. Then, on the next day, the CAIRNS director led as discussion of important facts regarding Lakotan history and culture.
