By Chance - Wanun

This week’s CAIRNS Etanhan Wotanin column traces some of the coincidences whereby the gift of a book by famous Dada artists led to a handdrawn artwork (the image above) in a book published in Boston in 1866, sent as a Christmas gift that year to a missionary at Santee Agency who was one of the first two female Episcopal missionaries in or near Dakota Territory, given by her to the priest of the mission, then ended up in the hands of two Dakotan priests, one of their grandsons, and finally the CAIRNS library. What are the chances of that happening? The column, “By Chance - Wanun,” can be read now by clicking here, or later this week in the Lakota Times newspaper.
