The CAIRNS director was invited by the National Park System to present at an evening event near the base of the amazing monolith known as Mato Tipila in Lakotan, Bears Lodge on all the earliest maps by U.S. cartographers, and Devils Tower ever since 1906 when it was the first national monument established in the United States. The image above is the agenda for his talk. Beginning from the right, it covered the nations that comprise the Ocheti Shakowin Confederacy, the traditional Lakotan narratives regarding the importance of the Black Hills, a discussion of Lakotan lands through time, and another traditional narrative whose main characters link Lakotans to the stars and to Mato Tipila.
