Elk Horn Valley
Monday, August 5, 2024
This week’s CAIRNS Etanhan Wotanin column is the sixth of our weekly “dispatches” relating to the 1874 reconnaissance expedition into the Black Hills. This week the expedition retraced their earlier route across an open prairie with many names. One of the names is Peshla where perhaps a Lakotan woman who married a star fell from the sky and died. The image above is a detail of a painting, “Tapun Sa Win” by Dyani White Hawk, 2017. The column, “Elk Horn Valley,” can be read now by clicking here, or later this week in the Lakota Times newspaper.
