Visiting Yale Peabody Museum
Wednesday, October 15, 2025
Professor Rieppel and the CAIRNS director met in New Haven, CT, to visit the Yale Peabody Museum. We enjoyed a tour of the exhibition spaces first and then spent the rest of the day researching in the paleontology collections area, shown in the image above. Vanessa, the collections manager, is pointing to the teeth in the fossilized jaw bone of a brontothere that lived around 34 million years ago and was excavated in the late 1800s from the 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty lands. Researching is often a solitary, silent, and serious endeavor but, as Vanessa and Lukas illustrate, there can also be some fun!
