CAIRNS hosted our first astronomy workshop this evening, July 8. A dozen attendees were invited to a ninety-minute event with hands-on activities, close observations, and illustrated presentations focused on the moon. Astronomonical and Lakotan viewpoints were incorporated. Peri, Janet, and the CAIRNS director facilitated the workshop. In the photo above, one of the two groups is conducting a naked eye, or unaided, observation of the rising, nearly full, moon. About an hour later they repeated the process and were then able to record the horizontal and vertical movement of the moon during that period of time.
