This morning the CAIRNS director met a bus of South Dakota Arts Conference attendees at Wounded Knee. The outing was the first of two pre-conference events into Pine Ridge Reservation organized by Creative Care, LLC. This one included stops at the Badlands Overlook near Red Shirt Table, lunch and a tour at Oglala Lakota Artspace, and a talk at Wounded Knee by the CAIRNS director about the history of the 1890 Massacre and the 1973 occupation, two epitomizing events in tribal and national history.
