Around 1911, Lone Man shared an account of the gift of the sacred pipe with  Frances Densmore who published it in Teton Sioux Music in 1918.  We organized his narrative into seven passages and numbered them from one (wanchi) to seven (shakowin). Each passage is illustrated by a contemporary Lakotan artist. The seven artists include four women and three men.
